Marsanne 2016

100% Marsanne from our estate vineyards in San Saba County.

Tasting Notes

This wine is a little deeper in color reflecting its character in the vineyard. It has a rich minerally texture that will become more complex with time. Aromatics of spice, meyer lemon and nuts.

Winemaker Notes

The grapes are from our estate High Valley Vineyard in San Saba County on a steep hillside with deep limestone and clay soils. They were hand harvested on July 29th, just early enough to retain their acidity. One hundred percent of this block of prolific grapes usually goes into our Terre Blanc wine where it is blended with its other northern Rhone counterparts. However, in 2016 I separated the block allowing for some experimentation with this lot where it began fermentation in stainless steel and was finished and then aged for short period in very neutral french oak barrels before bottling.

Cooperage Notes

Combination of stainless and barrel fermentation and aging.
