A single-vineyard Sangiovese that highlights the unique growing conditions of the Texas Hill Country. It can be paired side-by-side with another single-vineyard Sangiovese from the Texas High Plains as part of our Twin Terroir series.
Dark ruby red center with a bright red rim. Aromas of ripe black cherry, violet, leather, tobacco, and clove. Intense and fresh on the palate with firm but smooth tannins. This wine is elegant and will age well for several years.
This wine was grown at Hye Top Vineyards in Hye, TX on sloping limestone soils. The hard terrain makes for an extremely low yield and concentrated fruit, which was hand-harvested. In the cellar, we processed the fruit gently, allowing the fruit to ferment in its picking bins with minimal processing, so as to preserve the rich and delicate character of the fruit. After fermentation, the fruit was manually pressed, again minimizing the amount of machine processing. The wine was then aged in 25% new French oak for 18 months.
