Wedding Oak Winery Recognized as “Best of Show”

Visitors to our three tasting rooms in Burnet, Fredericksburg, and San Saba, Texas, often ask us, “Which is your best wine?” That is a valid question. We typically ask people what types of wines they like, and to taste a flight of our wines to see which one they like best. It is completely valid that the best wine is the one you love because taste is subjective.

However, there are fantastic objective measures of the quality of wine as well. At Wedding Oak Winery, we regularly submit our wines to prestigious international competitions where wines are evaluated and scored by a panel of expert judges in a blind-tasting format. It is a great way for us to get feedback on the quality of our wine. Competitions are also an excellent way to provide people with third-party validation of just how good our wines are.

This year, we have earned some outstanding accolades for several of the wines in our portfolio.

Best of Show

Wedding Oak Winery was recognized with the superlative “Best of Show Texas White Wine” for our 2022 Wedding Oak Winery Roussanne, Texas High Plains, Phillips Vineyard at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo International Wine Competition. This Double Gold award-winning wine has flavors of vibrant lemongrass that take center stage, accompanied by the refreshing zest of grapefruit and a hint of ripe banana. The 14th annual wine competition was held on October 2-4, 2023. More than 913 wines from across the United States and around the world were judged by a highly experienced panel that selects the award-winning wines by varietal. In all, we were recognized for seven medal-winning wines including:

·        2022 Wedding Oak Winery Riesling – Texas Class Champion

·        2021 Wedding Oak Winery Sangiovese - Texas Reserve Class Champion.

Best in Category

This week Wedding Oak Winery earned three “Best in Category” awards and five additional medals at the Lone Star International Wine Competition sponsored by the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association. This is the oldest international wine competition in Texas, and it provides a showcase for recognizing the excellent quality and diversity of one of the fastest-growing wine regions in the United States by promoting outstanding Texas wines.

We are delighted that all eight wines we submitted to the 40th annual judging and competition, which was held in Grapevine on October 11-12, were recognized with a medal. The Best in Category awards for our Gold Medal wines include:

●      2021 Primitivo - A big red with aromas of chocolate, smoke, and black plum, with black currant, vanilla, and bourbon ball on the palate.

●      2021 Sangiovese - This Italian-style wine has baking spice, cocoa, and cherry aromas with almond, black pepper, cardamom, and black fruit flavors.

●      2021 Tempranillo Reserve - A delicious wine with aromas of black cherry, leather, vanilla, and cocoa. Bright red fruit on the palate with moderate acidity and soft tannins.

These outstanding recognitions come after we won a Platinum Medal for our flagship 2020 Tioja at the TEXSOM Awards earlier this year.

“Which is your best wine?” While it’s true that our best wine is the one that you love, you can also trust that venerable wine critics think our entire portfolio of wines is among the best wines in the world. No matter which wines you choose to take home from a Wedding Oak Winery tasting room, you can be sure that it is of the utmost quality.

Which is your favorite?
